    Bio

Aleksei Rumiantsev (b.1980) is a Russian multidisciplinary artist exploring the contemporary transformation of human identity through the lens of personal perception and lived experience.

Aleksei graduated from the Institute of Contemporary Art (Moscow) and initially worked in conceptual art, incorporating assemblages and installations into his practice. His projects «Big Data» and «Reconstruction 4.0» were presented at CCI «Fabrika» (Moscow), alongside numerous exhibitions, including the Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art.

A severe eye injury and subsequent partial loss of vision led to the development of his distinctive style, characterized by sharp lines, achromatic color palettes and strong allegorical imagery. He started to work in traditional and digital media, gaining recognition in the world of digital art.

Aleksei has expanded his international exhibition presence, showcasing his works in numerous galleries such as Superlative Gallery, Artcrush Gallery, Mondoir Gallery, etc. His works have been featured at major international digital art festivals, including NFT NYC Week and the Builders DAO Festival in Milan, as well as displayed on over a thousand billboards in the USA, Australia and Belgium.

    Artist Statement

My art practice unfolds around the perception of instability, when reality shifts faster than the psyche can adjust. This state of dissonance is not purely psychological but also reflects a broader cultural condition. Rapid technological change, the growing integration of artificial intelligence, and new forms of human interaction continuously reshape the way perception operates and identity is experienced. My art responds to this state of acceleration and disorientation. It reflects inner shifts and attempts to locate coherence within an unstable and constantly evolving reality.
For a long time, I explored these ideas within conceptual art, but a severe eye injury became a turning point, redirecting my focus toward bodily sensations, emerging images, and fragments of memory. This experience and subsequent partial loss of vision heightened my sensitivity to the micro-movements of perception and became the foundation of my method. I explore the topology of inner landscapes of identity that continuously change in response to pressure and adaptation. Within this continuous movement, I search for an inner axis that preserves a sense of wholeness even when a form begins to transform.
I work from a void, solely relying on my intuition, gesture and muscle memory. In the achromatic field, the absence of color sharpens my perception, allowing tension, rhythm, and hesitation to become visible through the act of drawing. Traces of the pencil create relations between lines, densities, and textures that evoke an unconscious response and initiate a new movement. Each work becomes a map of inner states connected to a process of outward observation and a search for inner coherence with the environment.
