    Bio

Aleksei Rumiantsev (b.1980) is a Russian multidisciplinary artist exploring the contemporary transformation of human identity through the lens of personal perception and lived experience.

Aleksei graduated from the Institute of Contemporary Art (Moscow) and initially worked in conceptual art, incorporating assemblages and installations into his practice. His projects «Big Data» and «Reconstruction 4.0» were presented at CCI «Fabrika» (Moscow), alongside numerous exhibitions, including the Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art.

A severe eye injury and subsequent partial loss of vision led to the development of his distinctive style, characterized by sharp lines, achromatic color palettes and strong allegorical imagery. He started to work in traditional and digital media, gaining recognition in the world of digital art.

Aleksei has expanded his international exhibition presence, showcasing his works in numerous galleries such as Superlative Gallery, Artcrush Gallery, Mondoir Gallery, etc. His works have been featured at major international digital art festivals, including NFT NYC Week and the Builders DAO Festival in Milan, as well as displayed on over a thousand billboards in the USA, Australia and Belgium.

    Artist Statement

My art is a reflection of profound inner changes that occur in my subconscious, the changes I cannot articulate verbally, but which manifest on my canvases. These transformations are driven by the escalating crisis of civilization, a precursor to a new social paradigm shaped by contemporary challenges: the rapid integration of artificial intelligence and new technologies, evolving forms of human interaction and, most importantly, the necessity of activating internal resources and repressed aspects of the self to realize its potential in the modern world.
A severe eye injury and subsequent partial loss of vision allowed me to experience a long-brewing, fundamental transformation of identity and bring it to the canvas surface. My creative process is rooted in the radical honesty with myself and a viewer, rejecting premeditated narratives and themes. I work from a void, solely relying on my intuition, gesture and muscle memory. My imagery is deeply allegorical, shaped by recurring visions that have followed me throughout my life.
Through my work, I explore the complex layers of human experience, drawing the viewer into the depths of their own emotions and perceptions. The themes of self-identity and the human psyche lie at the core of my practice. I seek to reveal the essence of human nature—the raw truth that exists beyond social norms, behind the masks of confidence and success. By exposing my own states and emotions, I invite viewers to confront their own transformation, to acknowledge and embrace the discomfort of inner changes and to see their true selves.
